DescriptionIn this representation, a group of mourners is gathered around a grave, marked by a cross. A mother and child and two of the kneeling figure are held in the strongest light. The cross cast a shadow on the center of the composition and the remaining figures, bent in grief, recede into the deeper, nearly black shadows on the right.
