Grace Albee

Biography"Grace Arnold Albee was born in 1890 in Scituate, Rhode Island. She studied painting and drawing at the Rhode Island School of Design from 1910-1912. The following year she married the mural painter Percy F. Albee... Grace Albee began making linocuts in the mid 1920s... In 1928 the Albees moved to Paris... They became friends with other expatriate Americans, including the painter Norman Rockwell and the printmakers John Taylor Arms and Arthur Heinzelman... Albees works were accepted at several Paris Salons while she was living in France, and in 1932 she had her first one-person exhibition... Albee had begun to receive serious critical attention by the time the family returned to the United States in 1933... In 1937 the Albees bought a farm in Pennsylvania, and her work began to reflect rural life. Albee's prints are represented in museum collections throughout the United States. She continued to exhibit widely throughout her career and received numerous awards, prizes, and honors. Albee died in 1985." (Information found and copied from archival collection)
