Sarah Bienvenu

BiographySarah Bienvenu was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1955. She studied art at the Philadelphia College of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. From there she moved to Paris and traveled extensively throughout Europe pursuing her art education and career. In 1979 she settled in New Mexico and emerged as a leading contemporary artist of the Southwest.

Beginning as an oil painter, Sarah Bienvenu has for many years concentrated on large-scale painting in the medium of watercolor, developing her own technique and distinctive approach that have been described as “masterful and powerful.” Her work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions and extensive commentary. Her work is included in many private and public collections, including the United States Department of State, the New Mexico State Capitol Permanent Collection, and the Harwood Foundation Museum.
