Ted Kuykendall1953-2009

Photographic artist Ted Kuykendall (1953-2009) was born in Roswell, New Mexico. He attended the New Mexico Military Institute and was working for Luis Jimenez, an earlier RAiR artist, when Ted bought his first camera in 1975. He studied photography at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, learning from Van Duren Coke and Beaumont Newhall, and earned a BA in Photographic Arts in 1981. A carpenter by trade, Ted continued to create photographic pieces until his death. He held twelve solo exhibitions and participated in twenty-five group exhibitions. His work is in the public collections of, amongst others, the National Gallery of American Art at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. and the Museums of Fine Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Houston, Texas.
