DescriptionIn the lower foreground four young females are sitting at desks with typewriters and working on the typewriters. Behind them, dominating the upper two-thirds of the lithograph one sees the lights and signage of Times Square. It appears to be evening as the lights are all blazing, yet the girls work on. Blumenschein offers an iconic view of the everyday life of New Yorkers. The contrast of the glamour and the drudgery reveals her sense of humor, her awareness of the status of women and her astute powers of observation.
