Jane Ellen Burkeb. 1945

Jane Ellen Burke arrived in Taos in 1976 taking a job as the arts administrator for the Taos Arts Association. Having received a BFA in Metal Design from the University of Oklahoma, she returned to her interest in drawing and was fascinated by the soft shapes of adobe buildings and how their weight shaped the doorways and windows of the mud constructions. Light also caught her attention as she continued her explorations of her environment. When sailing the oceans became her focal point, she started a 20-year study of water and used line to capture its image. Now color has become her primary interest. Besides her art, Jane continues to explore her surroundings by hiking and traveling. She loves to read, quilt, and experiment with new recipes from various parts of the world, sharing them with friends and family. https://www.janeellenburke.com/about
