Lesley Brown

Lesley Brown was born in 1901 in Surrey, England. Her family moved to the United States in 1920 and Brown studied painting for two years at The Boston School of Fine Arts under painter William James II. Brown married and started a family in northern New Hampshire during which she was able to produce several volumes of poetry and continue painting. After her marriage ended, Brown came out west to visit here brother, Angus McDougall, who was living and working at the Harwood Foundation in Taos. Brown ended up moving into an apartment above the Harwood and continued to grow her art practice.
