Alyce Frankb. 1932

Alyce Frank was born 1932 in New Iberia, Louisiana - an event she refers to as her first artistic experience. She attended the University of Chicago (at age fifteen), the University of California at Los Angeles, and the University of Southern California. She and her husband, Larry, produced educational films in Los Angeles for nine years. In 1962 they moved to the Taos area of New Mexico, where they raised their three children and operated a Native American art business. Frank studied painting with Ray Vinella, with Bob Ellis at the D.H. Lawrence Ranch near Taos, and with Richard Diebenkorn at the Santa Fe Institute of Art. In 1973 she met artist Barbara Zaring. Since that time they have made painting excursions together all over the West. Their creative partnership is the subject of Dr. Kate O'Neill's Harvard doctoral dissertation, "A Relationship Runs Through It: The Psychological Landscape of Women's Creative Expression." In 1999 New Mexico Magazine published the book "The Magical Realism of Alyce Frank."
